Joe & Dough ~ Coffee Shop x Bakery from Singapore

All the way from Singapore, that the first tagline that we heard when they gonna open up their first outlet in Jakarta, Indonesia. This is Joe & Dough, a coffee shop and a bakery originated from Singapore. Currently having 12 outlets in Singapore itself and they are opening their first ever overseas outlet in Jakarta on 29 October 2018. We got the privilege to experience their business during the pre-opening event on 25 October 2018. It is located at Plaza Indonesia 2nd floor just across Sephora. And as of our pre-opening event, they were still some minor construction on the interior, so you may see the final result on the opening day. Let's check out our experience here!
Sorry for the blurry pictures as the next 3 pictures were shot with Smartphone in a low light condition. So, yeah this is their front cashier area with coffee machine where they serve coffee and other beverages. You can see their coffee and non-coffee menus on the upper wall behind and on the left is their pastries and cakes area.
This is the main dining area. It is designed more like a coffee shop than a restaurant, that's why the table is round and small. But on the front area, they also have a few bigger tables for dining.
On the right side of the dining area, there is a huge empty space that we ourselves not sure what's the purpose. Whether its gonna be there as a backdrop or there would be additional seatings around there. Let's see during the opening.
Fond of Piccolo latte? Try this piccolo latte in a cookie cup with chocolate (around the inner cup) and marshmellow. In our opinion, their piccolo was lighter than most coffee shops'. We can say its pretty similar to latte. However the cookie cup was very nice especially with that sweetness from the chocolate. The marshmellow was just okay as a companion, you can dip it on the hot coffee to soften the texture.
We were pretty late by the time we arrived on the pre-opening event. So unfortunately 2 rice dishes (which were very tempting) were out of stock. And as it was dinner time (around 8 PM), we were actually not into their brunch menus but that's the only options.
So, our first pick was Smoked Salmon Hash with 63 degree Egg (90k) which turned out to be so... delicious! It was totally out of our expectation, the smoked salmon was salty and smooth, while the hash brown was salty as well but the outer texture was perfectly crispy and the potato was smooth. Especially when mixed altogether with the 63 degree egg, that gave us creamy, salty, smooth sensation. It was absolutely food porn in our mouth!
Btw, if you're here not for heavy meal, you can order their simple croissant because it was just the perfect buttery flavor. And as far as we know, during the opening days (from 29 October to 4 November), they are giving away free croissant for the first 50 customers everyday only by ordering any food.
The second dish that we picked was Rendang Coney Dog (120k). At first we thought that they use the name Coney Dog as a dish called Corn Dog (popular in America). FYI Corn Dog is basically a fried long bread with sausage inside. So the outer texture was crispy. However it was totally not the case for Rendang Coney Dog.
It was actually a sandwhich dish with thick fat sausage covered with some sort of chopped mushroom (probably) in rendang flavor and melted mozzarella on top. However, it wasn't quite so called rendang flavor yet because the rendang intensity wasn't quite there yet. We did love the sausage because it was very thick and meaty, but the perfect rendang flavor would be awesome. The dish comes with aragula leaves in balsamic vinaigrette and sauteed cherry tomatoes.
As for the side dishes (or they call it BITES menu), we tried their meatballs with tomato sauce, covered with generous mozzarella cheese. As we took some photos of the whole dishes, we tended to kill the hot food into a cold dead food. And this is one of the victims because the mozzarella hardened that it couldn't blend together with the meatballs. Our bad, sorry!
The tomato sauce itself wasn't quite intense for our liking, a little bit savory would be nice. However the meatballs were definitely the star here. It was very meaty and beefy, and we could imagine having it while it was hot.
Last but not the least, the pastries! We took home some of their favorites including cheese cake, butter croissant (25k), and blueberry brionut (25k). We have to admit that their butter croissant with that white cream on top was amazing! The white cream was mildly sweet, perfectly nice together with their butter croissant. While the original butter croissant (25k) itself was buttery inside, slightly crispy on the outside, but still delivering overall soft and comforting croissant.
Anyway, we did enjoyed the night and all the foods. A little bit improvement on the seasonings of  rendang coney dog and tomato sauce meatballs would be perfect. But other than that, nice croissant, nice ambiance, nice coffee. Thank you guys for reading!
