Got invited by Nibble App for this special lunch at Honu Poke Bar & Matcha. Just a quick update if you haven't heard about Nibble App, its a Mobile based app where you can search for any food recommendation around Jakarta! You can also browser through their official website for a complete guide about food recommendations --> Anyway back to Honu, this petite cafe is offering mostly poke bowl: healthy bowl with fresh tuna or salmon. I personally rarely have this kind food, so its very interesting to actually try it here. Don't expect to have a lot of different kinds of food here as they only have a few lists. But for sure its very distinctive from many other new cafes. Let's go!
Iced Ginger Matcha - a typical japanese green tea with a hint of ginger flavor. Expect a little spicy from the ginger. If you don't like ginger, then you are not gonna like it.
Iced matcha latte - expect a milky slightly sweet matcha
This is Honu-lulu, inspired by the traditional Hawaiian poke. Its Ahi Tuna with shoyu, nori and cucumber, served on a choice of white or brown rice. Let's be honest, I don't really eat raw fish like sashimi. But the small cube size tuna with the sesame seeds look so tempting (similar to watermelon right). And when I had it in my mouth, its just pure fresh! It was just like having a fresh red colored jelly. Flavor wise, its pretty lightly so don't expect sweet or salty because they really emphasize on the freshness of the fish.
This is Two & Two - a mixed of tuna and salmon poke bowl with creamy sauce, wakame, lettuce, carrots and tempura crunch. Basically all the poke bowls might look very similar, its just a little bit different on the toppings or the fish (tuna or salmon).
Next one is Yugo - marinated salmon with wakame, edamame, tobiko, and japanese purple pickle.
If you don't eat sashimi, then they also have a vegetarian option with fried tofu
Save the best for the last! This is the most delicious one of all and most of my friends agreed with me. Fried chicken with onsen tomago. The battered chicken was really good, I could smell some kind of KFC secret recipe on the batter because it has that unique after taste.
Overall, I really enjoyed my healthy bowl here, although frankly speaking I'm not a raw fish eater. But for the long run, I believe they need to expand their business and grab a lot more target market by adding more varieties of food. Best of luck!
